Welcome to Flip the Script with Vic, your weekly pep talk to expand and shift your perspective. I'm your host, Victoria Nielsen. Together, we'll unwind all the things you thought you knew and awaken to what's possible when you flip the script and take control of your own life. Are you ready? Let's jump on in. Hello, loves. Welcome to another episode of Flip the script with Vic. I'm your host, Victoria Nielsen. Today's topic is not one that I would consider sexy, if you will, but it's one that I think that's really important because shifting my perspective on this has really allowed me to do more with less.
Speaker A [00:00:42]:
So what do I mean by that? I want to talk today about rest and the importance of rest in the creation process, but also in the manifestation and receiving process. I really feel like this is one of the best kept secrets because when I shifted this, I was able to manifest more and able to do more more potently than I was previously. And in our society today, we've been taught that we have to work hard. And I do work hard. It's not that I don't, but I work more efficiently now that I better understand not only my own energy, but the energy of the universe and the ebb and flow of the creative process, because first and foremost, we are all creative beings. I spent so much time of my life saying that I wasn't creative, and it's just not true. Every single person is creative, and it just depends on how much you're tapping into it. And the more that you tap into that creative flow, the more creative you're going to become.
Speaker A [00:01:51]:
And I really realized that when I started writing and journaling more and moving my body more and started to see that everything is a process of creation. If you let it be, that the way that you move your body when you're just like, dancing in the kitchen, making dinner, or the way that you see the world is bringing more beauty into the world. And that is creativity. It doesn't mean that you're labeling yourself as an artist or a creative. You can if you want to, because all of us are creative beings. That creative life force, the energy of life is a creative force. And we are here to bring more beauty to the earth through our creative eye, through our particular creative lens. And that looks different for everyone, right? It may be birthing a business into the world.
Speaker A [00:02:45]:
It may be speaking your beauty into the world by the way that you communicate and talk with other people. It could be sharing via a podcast like this one. Everything has the potential to be creative and is created by you in the moment. And so I share that because I think realizing I was creative opened up so many doors for me because the stories that we tell ourself right of all the things that we are not start to become true in our perspective because we've said them so much and then we shut ourselves off from the other dual perspective that is equally as true. And if we can open our eyes and our third eyes right to that opposite and equal perspective, we can see that we are both. And when we really allow ourselves to stop telling these stories of things that we can't do, the world opens up to what we can because our mind is so powerful. But our intuition and our creative life force is more powerful if we allow it to lead the way. And that's scary, right? Because we're really putting a piece of ourselves out there when we're being creative, we are leaving our fingerprint our unique essence in whatever it is that we're doing.
Speaker A [00:04:06]:
And when you do that, you have the potential for someone to say that they don't like it or for someone to react negatively to it. But that is the balance, right? That's what is allowed in the creative process because everyone has their own opinion. And so I'm talking about creativity because the secret, if you will, or the unsexy thing of rest has really allowed me to tap into my creativity more because I grew up in a divorced single mom household. My mom worked her ass off. And so I grew up with the story that you had to work hard for money, that you had to work hard for everything in life because that's what I saw and there's nothing wrong with that. But reprogramming myself to realize that I can have and be all of these things while working efficiently has been a game changer because yes, I still work hard, but I rest just as hard and I make sure that I'm giving back to myself just as much as when I'm working. And that's how I'm able to replenish myself. That's how I'm able to do so much more.
Speaker A [00:05:19]:
Because I've had a lot of people recently say like wow, you're doing a lot of things. You have this book tour, you have a podcast, you just launched The Portal Collective. And it feels like a lot and it is a lot, but it's because I am efficient and I rest. I'm not always creating. I'm only creating when the urge feels good and when I feel well rested. And I'm not creating from that place of lack because I think that's the thing, right, that we don't want to create out of scarcity and lack. And I have done that before and the energy of it is very different than the energy of creating when you're rested or just being rested in general. We have been taught that you have to work 8 hours a day, five days a week and that's just the way it's done.
Speaker A [00:06:09]:
But that's a patriarchal society. That's a male's energy. Male energy can go for that long and be fine. Feminine energy ebbs and flows. We need breaks. We need more time for integration and stillness that comes with rest. That's when the big AHA moments come, the big insights come when you allow yourself to be still and rest. That's why a lot of the times people will say, oh, I think the best in the shower, because you're calming the mind and you're not doing anything.
Speaker A [00:06:40]:
You're kind of turning the mind off and getting on autopilot and that allows those things to bubble to the surface when you're folding laundry, when you're vacuuming the house. But that is a form of meditation in and of itself. If you are unable to quiet the mind otherwise, because you're still kind of working and producing and creating action from those places versus sitting quietly on your mat or in the backyard and just laying in the grass, there is a difference there. But I want you to know that you can start anywhere that you're at. You don't have to be able to meditate quietly for hours on end. If taking those quiet still moments for you are when your body is doing a repetitive action, that's okay. But it's still necessary for you to be able to come to these realizations about yourself and that introspection is really important. We need the time for the rest and the integration and the dark moon phase of the moon cycle, right? If you've listened to, I think it's podcast number four about the magic in our menstrual cycles and the fact that we are cyclical beings and that we're not always meant to be shining our brightest.
Speaker A [00:07:53]:
It's not summer all the time. You need that new moon, dark moon inward energy to then be able to go out and be at your biggest and brightest and fullest expression. And I really think rest is important because I've talked about this before, that I work with the mantra now. When I rest, I receive more. Because I was that person that was always doing doing. I felt like if I wasn't doing in my business in particular, then I wasn't going to be making any money and people weren't going to see me and things weren't going to happen. But things naturally happen in that stillness because you're letting go, you're releasing and you're trusting in the universe to make things happen for you. And when you let go of that control, you allow the energy of anything being possible.
Speaker A [00:08:42]:
You let go of that energy that you know best, that you're saying, hey, okay universe, you're in the driver's seat now. I trust that what's going to happen is going to be for my highest good. And you have to cultivate trust. It doesn't come overnight. I remember at the beginning of the spiritual journey and the spiritual practice, I used to say I was trusting and I'd have to say it as a mantra, right? Trust, trust. But now I really do trust because I see things happening and working in my favor that when I decide to take a rest day, that's when everyone gets back to me, right? Like all the projects that I'm trying to move forward or the things that I'm trying to do, I say, okay, I've done my part. Like universe, now it's up to you. And I kid you not, on those days that I choose to be away from my phone or be more present in my everyday life, that's when things move forward because it's allowing the universe to move the chess pieces for me, right? It's allowing the universe to then come meet me where I'm at and says, okay, you've trusted.
Speaker A [00:09:43]:
I'm going to bestow the rest of this upon you. And the hamster wheel of life is not what we're meant to be doing. That rat race, that constant like, go, go, move, move, always doing. And it's because we want to distract ourselves that we don't want to be sitting with ourselves and our feelings and our thoughts. And I understand that. I've been there. But when we do, that's where we are able to cultivate a better awareness and understanding of ourselves but also of others. Because then we can stop and see ourselves mirrored in those around us.
Speaker A [00:10:20]:
We can stop and say, okay, I want to make this choice moving forward instead of this other choice that maybe I would have made if I wasn't stopping and pausing and allowing things to come to me. And I really want to support women in doing less. And I also mean that in the sense that I get it as a busy mom, maybe you can't, maybe you're a single mom and you're the only one that can do all of the things in your household. But if you can ask for help, if you can ask for support so that you can be doing less, I encourage it. And it's not a sign of weakness. It's actually, I think, a sign of strength to ask for that help and that support because then you're better supporting your energy. And I think that's a beautiful role model for your children, right, to show them that they don't have to work themselves into the ground, if that's available to you. I understand that's a very privileged point of view to have, but I think it makes all the difference in showing our children that we are worthy of taking time for ourselves.
Speaker A [00:11:31]:
We are worthy of not having to always be at the beck and call of everyone around us and of society and that they too can rest when they want to. Because honestly, you're going and going and going for what right for that title perhaps in the corporate world or for that monetary thing that you think is going to make you feel whole. It's not. You're the only one that can make yourself feel whole. You're the only one that can make yourself feel worthy and complete. And it's not something outside of you. It's not even that creation, perhaps, that you're cultivating and wanting to bring into the world. That thing is not you.
Speaker A [00:12:11]:
It is of your energy, yes, but it's not you. And even when it's out in the world, it's its own being, it's its own entity. So it's going to have its own I don't want to say thoughts and desires because it's not a sentient being, but it has its own energy. And again, you can't hold onto it and you can't control it. So when it does something that perhaps you don't like, if you are so attached to it, you're going to feel some type of way. And that neutral mind I always talk about is so important to come back to. Because really, I was thinking about this on the drive home yesterday from picking up my son, that life is just one big game, right? There's a long, winding road to drive to his school. And I felt for a moment like it was a video game simulation.
Speaker A [00:13:00]:
And then I started laughing to myself because I was like, it is. We are. This game of life really is just a simulation to see what happens when we do this thing. The cause and effect of our actions. That's why we're here, is because we want to experiment. Life is just a grand experiment for us to see. Okay. When I do X, what happens? Okay.
Speaker A [00:13:26]:
When I do y what happens? And if you can take it from that perspective, you realize that everything in life really isn't so serious and that it's okay to rest and to stop and to pause, because no one is waiting with bated breath for you to do this thing. You're the only one that's putting this timeline on yourself. And I laugh because I am that person and have been that person, where I'm the one that just puts an arbitrary timeline on things. I'm like, well, this needs to be done by this date. Why? Because I just decided it. Who am I to decide that the universe really is the one that's going to orchestrate it all anyway? So if it's in my highest good and of my highest timeline for it to be created or done by X date, it will be. If it's not, it's not going to be. And when you can release that need to it almost feels like a need to prove yourself, right? Of like, oh, I said I was going to do this thing, so I'm going to do it.
Speaker A [00:14:23]:
You'll still do it. But time is an illusion as it is, so what does it matter if it's tomorrow or if it's ten days from now? And I know some of you listening are like, victoria, it's easy for you to say that, like, you just created so many different things. And I did. But the energy that built up to that was a lot of rest. When my son was just born a little over a year ago, I had the hardest time stopping and resting and not doing anything. I wanted to be creating. I wanted to be just doing anything but what I was doing, which was sitting around the house. But what a gift to get to be able to do that, right? And when I finally was able to really be like, no, I don't get this time back.
Speaker A [00:15:10]:
This is precious time that I get to rest, that I get to be with my son. The creation will come later. I was already storing up the energy for all the things that are happening now. And I also believe when you're pregnant, that you are really calling in abundance and creative energy, because you are you're creating things literally in your womb that are then birthing out into the world. And that energy has to go somewhere because energy is neither created nor destroyed, right? So you just cultivated all of that energy in your womb space and you had the baby, but you still have all of that energy, and it's going to go somewhere, it's going to channel into your creative pursuits if you let it. And so I had to let it percolate. I had to let it ferment. I had to let it come together so that now, a year later, I am creating all of these things from that energy.
Speaker A [00:16:02]:
And so that's what I mean about timing too, right? I was anxious in the moment. I wanted to be doing things and I didn't know what it was. And we create that anxiety within our reality and within our bodies when we're not being in the present moment. And again, I'm guilty of it, too, all the time. My mind wants to be in the future, but the more that we can cultivate coming back to the present moment and coming back to stillness, then we're not creating that discord, that dissonance within the body. And then we're able to trust that the things are going to come as they may, that everything's going to work out in our favor. And that's why practices like breath work, like meditation, like journaling, all of the things I always talk about on this podcast are so important because it helps you calm that monkey mind, that ego, that brain that wants to keep moving even when we really need the stillness. Because in the stillness as well, you're calming your nervous system.
Speaker A [00:17:01]:
And when you feel safe and you're not in survival mode and not feeling like you have to go, go, that's when you're able to attract and to you know, when I was pregnant with Rocky, I remember wanting to call in more money. I had a certain amount in my head that I wanted to have from one on one clients at the time. But energetically, I was tired. I didn't want to really hold space in that. And I let it go to the universe. And I said, I want to call this in. But I don't know the best way to do it, you know, the best way, have it show up for me the way that it's meant to. And it did in a bonus from my corporate job that was nearly the exact amount I was looking to call in from one on one clients.
Speaker A [00:17:45]:
And then I was able to not have to expend that energy. I was able to keep that energy to myself in a way that was way more nurturing and way more productive, right? Quote unquote to my future goal of being well rested and able to grow and take care of this child in my womb. So that's what I mean, too, about being able to just let go of what it could look like, because I totally forgot we were even getting bonuses and the money felt like it just dropped in out of nowhere. And that's the magic of cocreating with the universe. That can happen when you let go of the outcome. That can happen when you rest. That can happen when you allow yourself to trust and receive. So I think I'll leave it there today because I feel like the energy of this podcast is just as potent as the listening.
Speaker A [00:18:37]:
Right? I hope that after this podcast, you don't feel like you have to do anything, that just listening and being in that receptive mode is enough to get the gears turning to awaken something within your DNA that was maybe dormant to allow you to begin integrating and shifting and changing and feeling that that's enough that you don't have to do anything else to call in the things that are meant for you. If you are loving the podcast, I would so appreciate if you liked, rated, reviewed, shared with someone who could benefit from the alchemy of just listening to these conversations.
